Finally we have spotted the new Mercedes-Maybach S600, with the only engine offered is Benz’s 523-hp 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12, the same unit that powers the Mercedes-Benz S600 and the Mercedes-Maybach S600. It is supremely quiet and muscular, closely related to the AMG engine fitted in the «65» models but with far more discreet manners. Potential assassins and kidnappers take note: a Toyota Hilux won’t be sufficient to keep up.

The rear compartment is cavernous, and Daimler claims it offers more room than any other car in its segment. Take that, Rolls-Royce! In fact, there is enough space to include an electrically operated partition between the front and rear seats; its glass can be switched from clear to opaque, if you prefer to shield your sordid goings-on from the chauffeur’s view. There is a standard 18.5-inch monitor and a stunning Burmester stereo system that can be spec’d in personalized tiers of fabulousness. Rulers who prefer to go into hiding, as well as the publicity shy, will be protected by the wide C-pillar and window curtains.
Leather seats are standard, although you can have your Maybach any way you want it. The «Designo» labels—signifying Mercedes’ in-house customization arm—that seem out of place in the shorter Maybach have disappeared. There are three instruments in the rear headliner, just as in the defunct Maybach 57 and 62, which the Maybach Pullman effectively replaces.
